What Is Hair Rebonding?
Hair rebonding is a semi-permanent, chemical, heat treatment. It helps you get straight and shiny hair. Hair rebonding can last for as long as you want with continuous touch-ups every three to four weeks. It is because your new hair grows in natural texture.
The process involves the use of harsh chemicals, and so needs extra care. Therefore, hair rebonding being a serious business, must be left to the professionals. During this process, hair relaxers break the structure of your hair. And then, after straightening, a neutralizer is applied to rebond the new structure of your hair.
Hair Rebonding Process
The process is going to take a while, so cancel all other plans. Or else, come on a day when you’re free. No matter how wavy or curly your hair is, hair rebonding is going to turn them shinier, smoother, and straighter. Now take a seat, and let the process begin.
Following are the main products your hairstylist is going to use over your hair:
- Hair Rebonding Kit
- A flat iron with built-in temperature settings
- A mild shampoo
- A blow dryer
Time Required
The time required for the process is approximately 3-8 hours. And the hair rebonding lasts for up to 6-12 months, depending on your hair-care routine and hair type.
The Process
- Firstly, your hairstylist will wash your hair with a mild shampoo to get your hair rid of all the built-up residue. And then, wait till your hair is dry, no deep-conditioning.
- After your hair is dried, the stylist will divide your hair into sections and apply the hair relaxant. This relaxant will break the natural protein structure of your hair.
- The relaxant is left in your hair for 35 to 40 minutes, depending on your hair type. After that, your hair is steamed for up to 40 minutes.
- Next, the relaxant is washed out of your hair, and your hair is deep conditioned.
- Now, your hair is air-dried, or a blow dryer can also be used.
- The next very important step is setting the new structure for your hair. This will be done with the help of keratin lotion. A thin layer of keratin lotion will help the new bonds set in with the use of the straightener.
- Now finally, your hair is washed for one last time with cold water. The cold water helps the bonds to strengthen.
- And for the complimentary part, your hair is dried, the stylist will apply the serum on them and straighten them for one last time.
